2019 Spray Schedule

Mosquito spraying has been suspended for the 2019 season due to extremely low trap counts and the cooler temperatures at night. If necessary due to weather changes and if we notice an increase in the mosquito population we are prepared to do spot treatments.

Also, as of August 16, 2019 there have been no human cases of the West Nile Virus in the state of Ohio. There have been 150 positive mosquito pools across the state so far. This compares to approximately 2000 positive results last year at this time. In the Mosquito Abatement district there has been 7 positive results found as compared to 30 at this time last year. This year’s positives have been found in Barberton’s Wards 1 -2 -3 -4 and 5 and were found in traps from July 23 - August 9. When positive results are found we target these areas up to 1/2 mile surrounding the trap sites with extra surveillance and treatment. The district thus far has trapped 26,608 mosquitoes for testing. Across Ohio confirmed human cases of the following has been found. LaCrosse Encephalitis - 3 males with a median age of 6 years in Portage and Franklin Counties. (Travel Related cases in Ohio Malaria - 32, Dengue - 3 and Chikungunya - 5.

Barberton Spray Schedule

June 13 – June 27

July 11 – July 25

August 08 – August 22

September 05 – September 19

Spraying will be conducted in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and proposed EPA regulations, specifically when:

Weather is absent of rain

Winds are less than 10 mph

Temperature is 50* or above

We urge those with health concerns, along with those who maintain apiaries, should take the necessary precautions. Call our office at 330-848-2623 with any concerns.

IF SURVELIENCE LIGHT TRAPS CONTAIN LESS THAN 20 MOSQUITOES, SPRAYING MAY BE CANCELLED FOR THAT WARD

SPRAYS ARE CONDUCTED THURSDAY EVENINGS and NIGHTS UNLESS NOTED

When needed, spraying may be conducted on any morning but no later than 8 am.

If unable to spray on the scheduled date, makeup spray will be on the following Monday if weather permits.
